Background
During World War II there existed in West Virginia a munitions plant, the West Virginia Ordnance Works, tasked with creating and storing large amounts of materials used in the processing of TNT. The plant was operated by private concerns, but owned by the US Army. After the war the base was closed, with portions of it being sold off to a variety of concerns. One area sat abandoned, and was known to the local populace as the “TNT Area.” It was a popular hangout place for local teens, until one fateful night in 1967, when a strange creature was encountered there – The Mothman.
In reality, only a small portion of the base was devoted to the production of munitions. Underneath the base was a top secret installation that was tasked with developing one of Tesla’s most controversial projects, an Interdimensional Gate. The project lasted from 1943 until 1948, when all testing was moved farther away from civilization. A good deal of the equipment was left behind, being too large to move. The passages were sealed, the entrances removed, and the base was somehow lost in the mists of time.
Until November 14, 1966, that is, because on that day, something stepped through the Gate from the Other Side, and was to affect the lives of many over the course of the next year.
The Current Investigation
The players are asked to travel to Point Pleasant to investigate an alleged sighting of the Mothman. After interviewing various locals, they uncover the “known” history of mothman sightings, Men in Black and the Silver Bridge collapse. They will also uncover the fact that the site of the TNT area was completely razed by the Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS).
