Section 1. Introduction
This page is meant to be a quick, no frills guide to converting Space
1889 to GURPS.
Section 2. Converting Characters
Bringing characters created with the Space 1889 system over to the
GURPS system should be relatively easy.
Following these guidelines should make the transition quick and
painless.
Physical Attributes
Convert the physical attributes of Strength, Agility and Endurance
into their GURPS counterparts - Strength, Dexterity and Health - using
the table below.
Space 1889 Score | GURPS Score |
1 | 8 |
2 | 9 |
3 | 10 |
4 | 12 |
5 | 14 |
6 | 16 |
Psychological Attributes
For the Space 1889 psychological attribute Intellect, convert to GURPS
IQ using the above table.
The other psychological attributes, Charisma and Social Level, are handled differently.
Space 1889 Charisma is treated as a GURPS advantage or
disadvantage.
Because of this, converting this score can be a little more complex,
due
to the variety of charisma related advantages or disadvantages found in
GURPS. One option is to convert Charisma to a GURPS reaction
bonus
total. This reaction bonus can then be broken down into its
component
parts as the player sees fit - Appearance, Charisma, Odious
Personal
Habits, and whatever other advantages or disadvantages seem appropriate
for the character.
